If you walked into the Aux Gym last week, you probably heard music, cheering, and maybe even someone yelling during a heated round of Smash Bros. But behind all the fun, the My Now My Next event was all about helping Mount Tahoma students take real steps toward their future.

Open to grades 8–12, My Now My Next gave seniors a chance to finish their High School and Beyond Plan, get support with FAFSA or WASFA, and explore scholarships they might not have known about. For many students, this was the push they needed to move from “I’ll do it later” to “I’m actually doing this.”

The event wasn’t just about paperwork. It was built around belonging and community. Students could jump into a Kahoot game, watch live performances, or cheer on friends singing and dancing on stage. The energy made the gym feel less like a stressful planning space and more like a celebration of what comes next.

Even though the event was packed with activities, the heart of it was support. Staff and volunteers sat with students one-on-one, helping them figure out confusing forms or talk through their plans. That kind of patience and kindness is what makes Mount Tahoma feel like home. It showed how collaboration and compassion can turn something overwhelming into something possible.

My Now My Next also honored the many cultures and voices that make our school strong. Performances from students across different backgrounds reminded everyone that our futures don’t have to look the same to matter. We each bring something unique, and that’s worth celebrating.

As the event wrapped up, one thing was clear: planning for the future doesn’t have to be scary. When we show up for each other—with empathy, creativity, and hope—we make space for everyone to move forward with confidence.
