On February 12, Ms. Capes’ room wasn’t just a classroom - it became the scene of a full-on Mafia showdown. Students circled up, ready to test their detective skills, their acting skills, and honestly, their ability to keep a straight face. If you walked by, you probably heard laughter, shouting, and at least five different people claiming they were “definitely not the Mafia.”

From the start, players were throwing around “a lot of knowledgeable quotes,” even if half of them sounded like they were made up on the spot. Discussions about who to vote out were “somewhat functional,” which is pretty much the perfect way to describe any Mafia game ever. People argued. People defended themselves dramatically. People blamed their best friends without hesitation.

But underneath the chaos, something else was happening too. The game brought together students who don’t always hang out, creating a space where everyone’s voice mattered. That sense of belonging is one of Mount Tahoma’s core values, and it showed every time someone spoke up (confident or not) to share who they thought the villain was.

Mafia also pushed everyone to think critically, read the room, and collaborate with others, even if they weren’t totally sure who they could trust. It was a mix of curiosity, creativity, and courage - all the things that make our Mt. Tahoma community strong.

Events like these remind us that school isn’t just about assignments and deadlines. Sometimes it’s about laughing with friends, taking risks, and building community in unexpected places… even in the middle of a chaotic Mafia game.
