On Saturday, February 21, 2026, the halls of Mount Tahoma High School transformed into a sea of red and gold as our community gathered for the annual Hội Xuân – Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tết) Festival. The event, a partnership with the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, served as a powerful testament to our school’s vision of empowering students to be meaningful contributors to their community.

The heart of the celebration was the Mount Tahoma Viet Club. After months of practicing late into the night, the club’s roughly 60 students delivered a phenomenal showcase of heritage and heart.

Behind the Scenes: The Dedication of Viet Club

While the audience saw seamless choreography and bright smiles, a behind-the-scenes video captured the true effort involved. For weeks, club members practiced for three hours nearly every day after school. The footage shows students refining intricate fan dances, coordinating traditional lion dance movements, and meticulously pinning together vibrant áo dài (traditional Vietnamese tunics). This level of commitment reflects the school's core values of academic courage and striving for excellence beyond the classroom walls.

Performances and Traditions

The live performances, which kicked off at 2:00 PM, captivated the crowd with energy and precision. Beyond the main stage, the festival offered:

- Traditional Flavors: Free plates of food were provided (with a suggested $5 donation), bringing families together over authentic Vietnamese dishes.

- Interactive Heritage: Younger attendees participated in traditional games and crafts, while red envelopes (lì xì) were distributed to symbolize good luck and prosperity for the Year of the Horse.

- Cultural Pride: The event highlighted the strength of our diverse student body, fostering an environment where every T-Bird is encouraged to be open-minded and caring toward the personal histories of their peers.

As we welcome the new year, this festival serves as more than just a party; it is a bridge between generations. By sharing these traditions, our students ensure that the rich culture of Vietnam remains a vibrant, living part of Mount Tahoma’s future.
