A Day at City Hall: Featuring Mayor Woodards
On October 21st, 2025, Tacoma held its tenth Student Government Day, an event that aims to educate students about its local government, and how things operate. Students were sent to places like a Fire Training station, the Tacoma Dome, Street Operations building, and even a greenhouse.
I went to Tacoma City Hall for Student Government Day ‘25, where we had a nice briefing. Even Mayor Victoria Woodards came and spoke to us. She told us about how we are not just the future, but the present. We did several activities after that, all simulating what it’s like to be a city worker. After that, we had lunch, where I got two exclusive interviews with Councilmember Joe Bushnell and Mayor Victoria Woodards where she said: “People like you inspire me”.
After those interviews, I went to the Tacoma Dome and a Tacoma Fire training station, where we got to learn the Tacoma Dome’s history and its purposes, as well as trying on firefighter uniforms, getting a tour of the station, and going into a soot-covered simulated fire building. After all of that, we went back to City Hall, where we held a mock city council meeting, in which I got to be a council member. All in all, it was a great experience in which I would recommend to anyone with an interest in local government and politics.
